Latest Fall Forum News
Registration is now open for Taking Action on the Built Environment: Building Healthy Public Policy, a Think Tank/Policy Forum. The format of this Fall event departs from our usual Conference in anticipation of the Joint OPHA/alPHa/OAHPP Conference on April 5-8, 2011.
OPHA and Health Promotion Ontario (HPO) invite you to be part of a unique event that will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to take action on issues around health and the built environment. The goal this year is to provide a forum for public health professionals and other professionals working on the built environment to establish ideas for moving policy issues forward in their communities.
On September 28th at 4:00 p.m., OPHA will hold its Annual General Meeting. At 7:00 p.m. there will be an Opening Keynote from Dr. David L. Mowat, Medical Officer of Health, Peel Region.
The Keynote will be followed by a Policy Panel, and an Awards Ceremony and Welcome Reception.
On September 29th, we start the day with a Keynote from Daniel H. Leeming, founding partner of the Planning Partnership. Choose from among five full-day concurrent think tank sessions to discuss and formulate actions on built environment policy issues for:
- Improving Access to Recreation in the Built Environment
- Health and Sustainable Transportation Choices: From Vision to Reality
- Building Access to Healthy Food
- Building Safe Communities for the Prevention of Injury and Violence
- Healthy Housing Environments: Access, Equity, and Quality
On September 30th, attend the Health Promotion Ontario annual conference to continue the discussion on food security as it relates to the social determinants of health.
All are also invited to attend OPHA’s Annual General Meeting. This event provides a unique opportunity to learn about OPHA’s advocacy activities, new dimensions of growth in the organization, and for Members to exercise their right to debate and vote on the resolutions and position papers being considered for adoption by OPHA.
