Welcome to OPHA 2007, an event designed to build capacity among public health practitioners and strengthen our ability to promote a progressive public health agenda in Ontario.

This year’s edition of the annual OPHA conference is co-sponsored with Toronto Public Health and the program is built around the theme “Public Health: Who’s at risk? What’s at stake?” This theme reflects broad challenges that cut across the diverse disciplines within our sector and provides an open-ended inquiry into the pressing issues we face every day in our work. The conference program committee has identified five sub-themes as topic areas to be explored by keynote speakers and participants in workshops, poster sessions and presentations. Please refer to the Call for Abstracts for more information.

As host community, the City of Toronto offers an outstanding gathering place for delegates, particularly in its vibrant downtown core and vicinity of the conference venue, the Eaton Centre Marriott Hotel. Toronto is also home to a deep tradition of excellence in public health advocacy and program delivery, a feature of the host community that will be on display as a key ingredient of this year’s conference.

We look forward to welcoming participants to the conference and working together with public health professionals across Ontario in the common cause of strengthening our sector and improving the health of the population.
