In this interactive workshop you will learn about two
workforce development initiatives the Public Health
Agency of Canada is leading to help build public health
capacity - Core Competencies for Public Health in
Canada, and Skills Online, a professional continuing
education program for public health professionals.

OPHA Awards Lunch
Outstanding individuals in public health will be awarded
one of the following:
- OPHA Honourary Membership, which recognizes the
outstanding contribution of an individual to public
health in Ontario.
- OPHA Life Membership, which recognizes the outstanding
contribution of an individual to the Association.
- OPHA Sheela Basrur Scholarship (formerly Student Award), an annual award of $1,000
available to current staff in public health who are returning
to a post-secondary institution for further education, or
students planning to enter the public health workforce
and currently enrolled in a public health focused field of
study at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- PHRED Student Award, which recognizes the work of
an undergraduate or graduate student in applied public
health research and evaluation.

All conference delegates are welcome to attend to OPHA
Annual General Meeting, though only OPHA members are
allowed to vote and must register before the meeting to be
eligible to cast a ballot. Members can register online or
on-site starting at 4 p.m. the day of the meeting.

Registered Nurses' Foundation of Ontario Annual Fundraising Event
RNFOO is dedicated to providing awards and scholorships for nurses in Ontario to advance their knowledge and practice.
This year's fall fundraising event is being held to coincide with the OPHA Conference and will acknowledge donors supporting the establishment of the Dr. Sheela
Basrur Oncology Nursing Scholarships.

Post-Conference Workshop
Addressing Health Inequalities in Public Health: From
Theory to Practice
OPHA Access, Equity and Social Justice Committee and
OPHA/alPHa Social Determinants of Health Working Group
This workshop will provide a unique opportunity for
public health practitioners to learn about effective strategies
from leading advocacy organizations and to discuss
the practical implications for programs in addressing
health inequalities.The objectives include: stimulating
dialogue to inform a social advocacy agenda; exploring
ways that social determinants of health can be made
operational in the new standards and surveillance protocols;
and sharing lessons from strategies that have been
tested in practice.
